BREAST IMPLANT REMOVAL
Your Reasons Are Personal. Your Plan Should Be Too.
Some patients choose explant surgery because their aesthetic preferences have changed. Others are evaluating discomfort, firmness, suspected rupture or another implant concern. BelleSculpt approaches every decision with careful evaluation and clear expectations.
Personal Preference
You may simply no longer want implants or prefer a smaller, more natural breast profile.
Changes Over Time
Aging, pregnancy, weight change and the breast tissue itself can alter how implants look and feel.
Implant Concerns
Pain, firmness, shape change or imaging findings deserve appropriate medical evaluation before a surgical plan is chosen.
EXPLANT OPTIONS
Removal Is Only One Part of the Decision
Implant Removal
The implant is removed through a planned incision. The surrounding capsule is assessed, and treatment depends on your history and operative findings.
Removal + Breast Lift
A lift may be considered when skin and tissue are expected to sit lower after the implant volume is removed.
Removal + Replacement
If you still want implant volume but need a change, replacement with a new implant and revised plan may be discussed.
Fat transfer may be an option for selected patients seeking modest natural volume. Not every option is appropriate for every patient.
CAREFUL EVALUATION
What We Review Before Surgery
- Implant type, age, size and placement when records are available
- Prior incisions and breast surgeries
- Breast shape, skin quality and remaining natural tissue
- Symptoms, physical findings and relevant imaging
- Your desired size and tolerance for scars
- Whether a lift, replacement or fat transfer should be discussed
About the Capsule
A capsule is the scar tissue the body forms around an implant. It does not always need complete removal. Capsulectomy may be recommended based on firmness, rupture, abnormal findings or other clinical factors. The safest appropriate approach is individualized.
RESULTS AND RECOVERY
Planning for the Shape After Implants
After explant surgery, breasts may look smaller, flatter or lower, and temporary swelling can obscure the final contour. Outcome depends on implant size, skin elasticity, scar tissue and the amount of natural breast tissue remaining.
Prepare
Bring implant records and relevant imaging if available. Your team provides instructions tailored to your health and procedure.
Remove
The procedure may use an existing scar or another planned incision. Capsule treatment and any combined reshaping are based on the surgical plan.
Heal
Expect individualized guidance for support garments, activity, incision care and follow-up. Breast shape continues to settle over time.
QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Breast Explant FAQs
Do all capsules need to be completely removed?
No. Capsule treatment depends on clinical findings and the reason for surgery. Complete capsule removal is not automatically required in every routine explant.
Will I need a breast lift?
Not everyone does. A lift may help when skin has stretched or natural tissue is likely to sit lower after implant removal.
Can symptoms be guaranteed to improve after explant?
No. Some patients report changes in symptoms, but improvement cannot be guaranteed and other causes may need evaluation.
What if I notice persistent swelling, a mass or pain?
Seek medical evaluation. These symptoms can require examination and testing, and findings may change the recommended operation.
